Menggali Potensi di Tengah Kemandirian Ekonomi dan Tantangan Infrastruktur
Unearthing Potential Amidst Economic Independence and Infrastructure Challenges

The Pulang Pisau Regency Government continues to strive to optimize the potential of natural resources, particularly through village forest management and tourism development. In an in-depth interview, the Deputy Regent of Pulang Pisau, Ahmad Jayadikarta, outlined the region’s vision of promoting village independence through the utilization of forest products and ecotourism.

Currently, four villages in Pulang Pisau have village forest status: Gohong, Kalawa, Buntoi, and Mantaren I. Village forest management is aimed at creating jobs for local residents and reducing unemployment.

Ahmad Jayadikarta expressed special appreciation for the role of supporting institutions such as the Forest Management and Management Unit (KPSHK), which has helped communities process forest products into economically valuable products, such as rattan crafts, snack products, and forest honey.

“They can be independent, like village MSMEs, that’s what we call them. And we, the local government, support these activities,” said Ahmad Jayadikarta. To strengthen this sector, starting in 2026, the government plans to optimize the role of Dekranasda (Regional Crafts Council) as a platform to accommodate and market MSME products from village forests.

Despite its significant potential, the local government faces challenges with budget constraints that are significantly different from those faced under previous administrations. However, Ahmad Jayadikarta emphasized that conservation activities must continue to operate with maximum efficiency.

In terms of tourism, Pulang Pisau is currently dominated by cultural sites such as the Betang House in Buntoi Village and the Djaga Bahen House in Bahu Palawa Village. However, development towards forest-based edu-ecotourism faces significant challenges in accessibility, such as difficult access, limited infrastructure, and inadequate supporting facilities.

Besides the forest, the Deputy Regent also has high hopes for Cemantan Beach downstream. Although currently difficult to access and only accessible by motorbike through damaged roads, the beach’s beauty is considered comparable to popular destinations in other areas.

Ahmad Jayadikarta suggested that the management of this tourism project involve village youth through tent and gazebo rentals, which will serve as a source of village income. The government has deliberately maintained the wooden bridge leading to the site to preserve the ecosystem and prevent the entry of heavy vehicles that could potentially over-exploit natural resources.

Through collaboration between the Environmental Agency (DLH) and the Culture, Youth, Sports, and Tourism Agency (Disbudporapar), the Pulang Pisau Regency Government hopes this cross-sector synergy will enable sustainable village development based on nature conservation.
