Increasing Village Forest Knowledge Through Information Signs

An information sign, or often called an information board, is a medium in the form of a board or sign that is placed in a certain location to provide information to people who pass by or visit that location. Information signs can contain various kinds of information, ranging from information about tourist attractions, directions, historical information, environmental information, and so on.

KPSHK runs the Integrated Management of Peat Forest Ecosystem (PTEHG) program involving 4 Village Forests (HD), namely Gohong Village Forest, Kalawa Village Forest, Mantaren I Village Forest, and Buntoi Village Forest in Kahayan Hilir District, Pulang Pisau Regency, Central Kalimantan Province. KPSHK has made various efforts to improve the 4 HD peat ecosystem. One of them is providing information or knowledge related to village forests, so that people realize the importance of protecting village forests. KPSHK in supporting the program, made information signs for each village forest (4 signs) which were installed each at the Secretariat of the Village Forest Management Institution (LPHD) except for the HD Buntoi Information Sign which was installed in the Buntoi Village Hall. The installation will be carried out in February 2024. The purpose of making the information signs is to provide understanding and knowledge to the community/people who pass by or visit the locations of the four village forests. With information signs, people can obtain accurate and useful information about the location of village forests, thereby increasing their experience and understanding of village forests. Apart from that, information signs can also be used to provide location instructions, directions, educate about the surrounding environment, and even as a means of promoting KUPS that have been established so that you can find out about business groups and their products in that location.

Information signs for these 4 village forests provide information to the community about the forest and the surrounding environment. Information signs contain information about flora and fauna in the forest, location of canal blocking, information boards, TMAT monitoring wells, Fire Monitoring Towers, village forest boundaries, peat dome areas, and not peat kumbha. Apart from that, information on the Social Forestry Business Group (KUPS), the size of the planting area, and the size of the HD along with the SK are also included which is useful for the community.

Information signs have a very important role in providing accurate information and useful education to the public. Therefore, village forest information signs must always be paid attention to and maintained so that they are always in good condition and can provide maximum benefits.

In conclusion, the benefits of village forest information signs are very important. The HD Kahayan Hilir information sign can help the community or people who visit to understand better about the forest and the surrounding environment, so that it can increase public awareness and understanding of the importance of protecting village forests and preserving forests.
